Mars Whisky has been in production since the 1940s, but in 1984 they opened the Shinshu Distillery. The beautiful alpine setting of this facility positions it as Japan’s highest elevation distillery. Known for producing richly flavorful whiskies with elegant complexity, Mars’ bottlings deliver at every level. The Iwai Blue Label is their 80 proof introduction, but it over-delivers in both flavor and application. Easy going for a neat pour, but it still carries more than enough flavor to make a tasty highball.
